Infos about Igor Brzovic
Label owner of Forward Education & Fast Forward Education
Born in the early eighties, formerly his interest in music developed under the influence of the former punk and rock scene. After moving to Germany his taste begins to change from year to year. With the big boom of the rave culture in the early 90s, which at the time had affected the German music scene, his interest in electronic music subsequently increased stronger.

The biggest influence on him at the time were the legends and pioneers of electronic music like Westbam, Marusha, and Sven Vaeth. Beginning to monitor all happenings surrounding the whole electronic scene through the media as well as their presence at various events and parties, his interest in the very production of electronic music begins in the mid-nineties foremost only for himself.

As time passed and electronic music started to spread in different styles, the biggest influence on his music and production were great men from the Deep & Tech House scene, such as Terry Francis, Nathan Coles, Terry Lee Brown Jr ., The Timewriter, Dave Mothersole.

Following a short Interview with Peavey in German and where you could meet him as a Dj:
deepGroove: Hallo Peavey und vielen Dank das du dir die Zeit genommen hast für dieses kleine Interview.

Peavey: Sowas macht man doch gerne, vor allem wenn’s nen Jubiläum ist deepGroove: Seit wann bist du nun der Musik verfallen und womit fing es an?

Peavey: Der Musik generell schon seit frühster Kindheit. Alles fing eigentlich mit musikalischer Früherziehung an. Mit ca. 6 Jahren habe ich dann angefangen Saxophon zu spielen, später auch im Orchester. Es fing also alles sehr „klassisch“ an…Später hatte ich dann meine ersten elektronischen Hörerlebnisse bei der Reincarnation Parade in Hannover. Mit ein paar Freunden zog es mich damals Wochenende für Wochenende in die Plattenläden der Stadt, um die neusten Sachen zu hören. Abendveranstaltungen waren damals leider eher selten, da wir alle noch U18 waren Es folgten Besuche der Love Parade, Popkomm usw. Musikalisch ging es zu Beginn noch in alle elektronische Richtungen – von frühen Detroit/Chicago House und Techno zu Drum’n’Bass und Jungle bis ich dann irgendwann endgültig zwischen `98 / `99 der House Music verfallen bin. deepGroove: Ich habe damals als 10 Jähriger angefangen Musikkassetten auseinander zu schneiden um sie dann mit Tesafilm wieder zusammen zu kleben. Meine ersten “Gehversuche” im Bereich Dj´ing. Wenn man das überhaupt so nennen kann. Wie fing es bei dir an?

Peavey: Ich habe zwar keine Kassetten auseinander geschnitten, aber so ähnlich sahen meine ersten Gehversuche auch aus. Damals, als ich noch „Clubverbot“ hatte, saß ich fast jedes Wochenende vorm Tapedeck meines Vaters und hab so ziemlich jede HR3 Club Night mitgeschnitten. Wenn z.B. Mayday in Dortmund anstand hab ich mich mich mit nem 6er Pack Kassetten bewaffnet und habe jede Minute mitgeschnitten. Mein erster Plattenspieler war ein Riemenangetriebener Technics-Nachbau, den ich aus’m Westfalia Katalog bestellt hatte….Ein Numark Mixer ergänzte damals mein „halbes“ Setup. Der zweite Plattenspieler, diesmal ein echter Technics, folgte erst 2-3 Jahre später, nachdem ich meine Sommerferien in einer Holzfabrik verbracht hatte. Die ersten Auftritte vor Publikum waren dann Geburtstage und Schulfeiern. Die ersten richtigen Club-Gigs folgten dann mit 16-17… zu der Zeit jobbte ich neben der Schule in einer Bar an der Theke und irgendwann bemerkte der Chef, dass ich wohl auch ein Gespür für Musik hatte. Ich durfte dann ein paar mal dort auflegen, bis ich endgültig das Tablett gegen den Plattenspieler eintauschte…

deepGroove: Es gibt Djs die Packen vorher ihre Platten in Reih und Glied um ein bestimmtes Set zu spielen. Machst du dir auch solche Gedanken oder kommt der “Fluss” am Abend zur Atmosphäre?

Peavey: Ich mache mir definitiv vorab Gedanken was ich gerne spielen möchte, aber entscheide meist vor Ort und spontan die Reihenfolge. Man sollte ja auch immer das Publikum im Blick haben und reagieren! deepGroove: Kommen wir mal zum Produzieren. Henrik Schwarz sagte mal, dass bei ihm alles mit einem Chaos anfängt. Ist das bei die ähnlich, oder bist du einer derjenigen die schon den Track im Kopf haben?

Peavey: Chaos trifft’s schon sehr gut. Meine CPU ist häufig völlig am Ende…und dann muss ich mich von einigen Plugins wieder verabschieden,… meist aber zum Vorteil! Aber ich bin auch noch lange nicht dort angelangt, wo z.B. ein Henrik Schwarz jetzt ist. Meine Kenntnisse in Ableton sind auf jeden Fall noch ausbaufähig. Ich lasse meine Tracks gerne mal ein paar Tage liegen, bevor ich daran weiter arbeite. Oft höre ich dann erst die kleinen Fehler die ich gemacht hab oder es kommen mir neue Melodieverläufe oder Harmoniewechsel in den Kopf. Ich bin da sehr „Entscheidungsfreudig“. Deshalb dauert es auch schon mal 2-3 Monate bis ich einen Track vollends für mich abschließen kann. deepGroove: Was inspiriert dich?

Peavey: Das kann wirklich vieles sein. Ein gutes Essen/BBQ, ein Bild, Farben, aber natürlich lasse ich mich auch von anderer Musik inspirieren. deepGroove: Deine Debut-EP wird noch dieses erscheinen. Was wird uns da erwarten?

Peavey: Es wird dieses Jahr noch eine 3-Track EP kommen. Wann und auf welchem Label ist allerdings noch nicht klar. Derzeit arbeite ich am dritten Track mit einer jungen norwegischen Sängerin. Viel mehr möchte ich noch gar nicht verraten. deepGroove: Ich schmeiße mal ein Wort ein und du sagst ohne Nachdenken was dir dazu einfällt: Peppermint Jam

Peavey: Der Weidendamm 8 in Hannover. Das ist die Adresse wo alles anfing! deepGroove (lacht): Klasse Antwort! Aber mal im ernst was ist deine Aufgabe bei Peppermint Jam. Was muss sich der Leser vorstellen? Den ganzen Tag Kaffee trinken?

Peavey: Promotion, Social Networking, kreatives Mitdenken, neue Ideen einbringen und umsetzen – das geht von Ideen zu Cover Artworks, Texte schreiben, alles was rund um ein neues Release passiert – DJs/Radio/Magazine bemustern, zur Veröffentlichung alle Kanäle nutzen, um das Produkt zu platzieren,…und natürlich sollte man mit einem Auge immer den Markt im Blick behalten. deepGroove: Zum Abschluss mal zurück zum Auflegen. Was ist so das Lustigste oder Peinlichste was dir beim Auflegen je passiert ist?
